A HMP/YOI in Hampshire are offering Tutors, trainers and lecturers looking for part time sessional work the opportunity to see first-hand just how rewarding teaching in a prison can really be.

Re-offending currently costs the economy between £9.5 and £13 billion a year on average and Statistics show that education and training drastically reduces an individual’s likelihood of re-offending on release. Not only does upskilling provide more opportunities to gain employment but it increases self-esteem and self-worth.

The prison is holding an Open Afternoon on Thursday 6th October from 1:30pm until 4pm offering people the chance to see a current teacher in action and meet the staff and learners.

We are looking for people to deliver the following at EL3 – L2:
* Functional Skills English & Maths
* ESOL
* IT

Suitable candidates will meet the following criteria:
* A minimum of a Level 3 qualification in one of the specified subject specialisms.
* A recognised teaching qualification.
* Experience of teaching in a classroom setting.
* Have knowledge and understanding of current curriculum.
* Competent IT skills for maintaining and updating student portfolios.
* Own transport – due to the location of the prison.

In return we can offer you the following:
- £18-25 per hour (contact hours) depending upon qualifications and experience
- Flexibility to take holidays throughout the year without the usual term time restrictions
- Down time within the prison for planning (no marking is completed at home)
- Education runs all year and not termly so there is increased earning potential for sessional and on-going staff

- Small manageable class sizes on average of between 7 and 12 learners
